I've spent the last several months making mental notes as well as writing list after list on every open sheet of paper - of all the things I needed to accomplish before the baby arrives. And while I've done fairly well with things like putting together wills and family photo albums, revising budget spreadsheets and rectifying our vehicle situation, reorganizing the family room and cleaning carpets umpteen times, I was sort of slacking on the whole getting ready FOR THE BAY-BEE idea.
Until this week. The clock is ticking, friends, and I am pleased to say that we're getting there.
Knowing that baby Marin will spend her nights in Kevin's and my bedroom for at least the first six months to year of her life, we decided not to put the boys together in one room just yet (read: do I look crazy?) For this reason, her crib has been assembled in the corner of Jack's room, and finally boasts details such as sheets! and blankets! and toys! Not that it really matters to her at this point whether she's got her own little corner of the world, but one day she may ask why she didn't have a sweet pink infant nursery and I will ask her if I look crazy enough to put her brothers together in a room a moment before I had to, and tell her that at least she had a corner. And then I'll spot her fifty bucks for her next therapy session.
It is a pretty corner, though.
Decorated with the letters of her name made by her auntie (my sister Sant) and hung with ribbons by her mama.
She's got a beautiful quilt made by her Mimi (Kevin's mom) and a soft afghan crocheted by her Gramma (my mom)
and sweet! girly! toys! from friends.
Now never you mind what the other side of this room always looks like. You focus on the pink, soft, clean and organized for now, mkay?
A couple weekends ago I sent Jack packing moved all of Jackson's things from his own bedroom closet into his brother's so as to have plenty of room for the ten thousand items babies come with these days. Twas a brilliant plan that is working well thus far, and as a bonus these closet doors have remained closed ever since and therefore needless cyclone closet disasters have been contained to one room only. Aah, bliss.
The rest of baby Marin's personal clothing line has (fiiiiiinally) been laundered and organized, organized, organized into the corner of our bedroom.
I am far too embarrassed to share with you the number of days and hours it took me to sort and separate by size and type of clothing, right down to whether it is a onesie or snap-close undershirt, into drawers and baskets with labels for all of the help I am hoping to receive (read: COME HELP!)
Baby diapers! And sweet, soft smelling baby lotions! EEEE!
Like I said...this house is totally ready for a baby...just as soon as I kick these two yahoos out of her bed, ha!

So now that we're almost there, it's time for some good guessing. Take a stab at this kiddo's birth day, weight and length. It may help to know that although we have no absolute, all along my OB has used September 8th through 10th as a target for my c-section. He may go a little earlier or (God I hope not) a little later. Also, I have a history of delivering tiny, early babies, so don't go throwing out my actual due date or anything close to 11 pounds. KJ was born at 36 weeks weighing 5 pounds 0 ounces, 17.5 inches long, and Jack was delivered at 35 weeks weighing 4 pounds 6 ounces, and was 17 inches long.
I can't wait to see who comes closest!

I had to comment on this one because:
1) We have the SAME crib!! And my almost-4-yr-old can't wait for her new baby sister to inhabit it. (although I can't compete with the boys in it!)
2) I love baby polls! I'm guessing Sept 9th, 6lbs, 2oz and 17.5 inches. How many weeks will you be then?
3) You are inspiring me to get busy on my own nesting and get ready for this new baby!

August 31
6 lbs.
I have no idea why I'm guessing that, those are just the first numbers that popped in my head.
I love Marin's little corner.

Oopsie! Thanks Julie. I'm 35 weeks today.

We have the exact same crib and mobile. I swear. And I'm due on the 17th. With a little girl. But she will be ginormus compared to your little 5 lb 4 oz 17 in baby who I think will be born on Septmeber 8. And that's my guess.

I will go with September 1
5 lbs 12 oz (because she has to beat her brothers)
18 in
Posted by: SSU | 20 August 2008 at 04:38 PM
September 9th, 6 lbs. 7oz. 19 inches.
Hope all goes well!

I'm going with September 4th and (I think Marin will be a bit bigger since you haven't had any complications this time around) 6 lbs 8oz. Can't wait to meet her!

Oh I suck at these things so please make social plans for the 7th of September because that's my date for Marin's birthday. I'll go with 6 lbs 12 oz and 18.5".

I'm going with September 4th and 7lbs even. Nice and perfect.

I have to comment about her corner. I have 4 kids, 3 boys and a baby girl. They ALL share the same room and she has a corner too and it's o.k. Though I may have to come up with the extra $50 for her therapy sessions too. As for your baby's arrival, Sept 3, 5 lbs 13 oz and 18 inches long.

Kara has that same bunny and loves it at bedtime! May it bring the same peace to baby Marin.
Also, my guess is September 5, six pounds, two ounces, and eighteen inches long. Then I can spend the weekend in northwest Indiana and snuggle on your baby girl. Wheee!

Let me go look at my calendar and see what day will be best for me...Oh wait, it's up to Marin and/or the doctor! ;)
I say September 9, afternoon, 6lbs 9oz, 18.5 inches. Just wait for me to get there!!!
OOOH, I can't wait this is getting so close!
Posted by: Jenny | 20 August 2008 at 10:02 PM
I'm going with August 29th, 7lbs 2oz and 18 1/2 inches long.
I'm so totally excited for you! She's going to be one lucky little girl!
Posted by: SJ | 20 August 2008 at 11:57 PM
The room looks great! Now, just need a baby girl for the pictures with the boys ...
How about ... Sept 3, 6 lobs even (or lbs, if you think that'd be more accurate) and 18 inches.
And yes, it is very late. I can't sleep, so I am awake & eating your yummy cookies. Thanks!

Maybe you will give new meaning to the term "Labor Day" ha ha. So my guess is Sept. 1st. 6 lbs. 7 oz. and 19 inches there abouts. I don't know where or how I came up w/ this. Truthfully I think the 10th of Sept. is a great day to have a baby. (Jacob's b-day) Her corner looks awesome, and how in the hell are you so organized? Could you come to my house?
Posted by: erica | 21 August 2008 at 08:40 AM
ooohh also, I love your pink carseat. cute.
Posted by: erica | 21 August 2008 at 08:40 AM
I am gonna say September 7th and she will weigh 6 pounds 9 ounces. Keep in mind that I said before, you must wait until AFTER September 3rd since I will be in Florida and will not have a computer, mmmkay?
Posted by: Rachel | 21 August 2008 at 11:00 AM
don't hate me...Sept. 10th, 7pounds 4 oz.
(I was so early with #1 and overdue and induced with #2)
Posted by: glamgranola | 21 August 2008 at 01:49 PM
I am going with September 6th and she will weigh 8lbs 2oz and 20 in.
Oh, I can't wait!
Posted by: Cindy | 21 August 2008 at 06:13 PM
I say Sept. 1 and 5 lbs 12 oz. I picked Labor Day - because well, its Labor Day and because everything always happens to me on a holiday weekend when everyone is on call and not at the hospital! Love the pink!
Posted by: Kim | 21 August 2008 at 08:49 PM
Okay Marin-- I think you will be 6lbs, 13 oz. and 19.5 inches long.
Born Sept 5th at 8:09am.
Those are my guesses:) I have an unfair advantage though, I get first-hand scoop;)
Posted by: Sant | 21 August 2008 at 09:55 PM
I can't believe my guess is still available!
I'm going with you taking over my original c-s date of 9/2. Also, I think Marin will be 5 lbs, 9 oz.
Wanna run a size guess back at me???
Posted by: Liza | 22 August 2008 at 09:18 AM
Hi Molly! Best of luck... Hoping for a quick and speedy recovery for you!
My guess is:
Wed Sept 3 9:33am arrival time... weight: 6 lbs 3 oz
length:19 inches
I think little Miss Marin is gonna be bigger and longer than both of her brothers were since this pregnancy was the easiest for you. Good luck!
Posted by: Becky | 22 August 2008 at 09:26 AM
9/6 (my birthday)
17 in
4 lbs 8 oz
Posted by: Annette | 22 August 2008 at 08:02 PM
I think little Marin will be born on September 8th between 11am and 2pm, and will weight 6-7 lbs.
She will be the little angel of the nursery.

Now that we've placed bets and you are slowly marching to that due date, you know going 5 days with no post isn't very nice. Don't you? (Like you don't have 1,000 other things occupying your time.) (And you know I say this in a sincere way because seriously, I can't find time to blog at all so...yeah.)
Posted by: Hilary | 25 August 2008 at 01:09 PM
HOLY CRAP...you are really and truly having a sweet baby girl. I'm so excited!
I am so bad at picking the dates. So um yeah, I'll just be happy when she gets here!
