It was two degrees outside. And snowing.
He returned with my chicken, which normally I hate from fast food joints, but under the circumstances I was willing to take what I could get. I'd already wiped out all the chicken from our freezer in days previous, and the stores were closed.
So I happily smothered my sandwich in fat-free sour cream and devoured it. Then I ate half of my wonderful husband's Big Mac as well. (Seriously, I would have just pulled the beef off the bun if he would've allowed it. That's what I was really going for anyway.)
This is now my third pregnancy where I've spent the first trimester waffling (mmm, waffles) back and forth between sick as a dog and carnivorous wild beast. I have no problem imagining what a lion has visions of just before feeding time, because baby, I am so there.
While pregnant with KJ, I'd buy beef stew meat, pan fry it, and have at it with a fork. After that first trimester I could no longer stand the sight of red meat and lived on ham. Ham, day and night. During my pregnancy with Jack, the morning sickness was even worse, but when I could keep anything down I always went for hamburger. And for whatever reason, dairy products made me horribly sick.
This time around? Chicken.
Chicken, and ice cold low fat sour cream.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmy God.
After last night's adventure with the most unhealthy variety of meat, I decided to head out into the cold this morning and stock up. I returned home with chicken breasts, ground chicken, ground turkey, cubed ham, ham patties, steaks, and country-style ribs.
Now to give you a fair picture, when I am not tearing into the above listed, I'm still eating everything I would have on Weight Watchers. Small bowls of cereal, Lean Cuisine sandwiches, bananas, Fiber One bars. (Okay, now I'm starving, for sure. You?) It is my goal with this baby to have the healthiest pregnancy of the three. I've already gone through bed rest, premature labor, pre-eclampsia, hospitalization and two premature, low birth-weight babies. This time around I am nearly 100 pounds thinner and haven't enjoyed an Oreo cookie in years. I'm doing Yoga, keeping a very positive, healthy attitude, sleeping more, and staying busy with the boys.
If there really is such a thing as mind over matter, I'm going to know it this time around.
Which, of course, is not to say I'll be denying myself wicked amounts of Cookie Dough Ice Cream should the baby want it. (I'm here for you baby.) I believe that in every area of life, balance is the name of the game.
So now you tell me...what do you crave? Or what did you crave with your pregnancies?
(AKA, give me ideas while the gettin's good.)

okay...this is hilarious:) I love the cravings!! I really didn't have cravings with my pregnancies. AND I just started WW's and this post did not help the whole craving thing:) LOL!!

First pregnancy - BK chicken sandwiches. I had to drive past BK on the way to work every day and I could smell them for miles out. And cheese. You'd find me gnawing on huge bricks of cheese like a rodent.
Second pregancy - only seafood & crab sandwiches from Subway with pickles and black olives. Hourly, if possible. That is why I cannot have another child; Subway has discontinued the seafood & crab sandwich. So I hope I haven't given you a craving for it.
In both pregancies, but definitely the 2nd, the very thought chicken sent my head spinning. To actually have touched it would have killed me.
Mmmm...waffles.

With Haley? I wanted pickles. Peppers. Pickled peppers. And I drank the pickled pepper juice like water. And Reese's Pieces. Oh how I loved the Reesey Peecey.
With Bella ? All things fruity and sour. Sour gummy worms. Warheads. And any gas station that had those fruity icey drinks? saw me at least 3 times a week. Yum.

I love this. I always kind of thought cravings were BS. Even while pregnant with Mia. I didn't really eat anything I normally wouldn't eat. I mean, I never sent Tony out at 3 am for a chocolate covered pickle or anything. It was after I delivered her though that I realzied how much cereal I ate while I was pregnant. I could eat cereal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And did on some days. And while I love cereal all the time, I remember craving it while pregnant. With Dom it was still cereal, but this time around it was Cinnamon Toast Crunch. But then I realized that it might not be so much the cereal as it was the cinnamon. Tony and I were at Chili's one night and he couldn't figure out his last side item to order. He asked if I wanted anything. I looked at the menu and demanded cinnamon apples. I had never had them from Chili's before. They were heaven. Cinnamon donuts. Anything with cinnamon, I was all over it.
Last thing...I know, I'm rambling...I love your attitude. Keep it up.

The first tri I was so sick all I wanted was lemon gatoraide, the second I had to have nectarines and green olives (not in the same sitting) the 3rd was the worst,,,, whoppers! I was, the burger king. And gained the 52 lbs to prove it. I miss eating like that but I like seeing my feet more.

Oooo, fun question!
With Mason I remember my craving being so strong. I was at work one time and I knew I wanted something so spicy it'd burn my mouth, bad. I left work early, went and bought a jar of jalapenos and ate half the jar on a huge plate of nachos!
Later in the pregnancy I wanted sugar, we had this gas station that had Monster cookies (2 huge cookies with an inch of frosting in the middle, like a sandwich). They made your teeth hurt , but it was a good hurt!
Ginger Ale makes me me want to puke these days because I puked it one to many times during that pregnancy. It's supposed to help nausea? Ha! Not so much.

With Jacob is was mashed potatoes and gravy from KFC and lemonade freezes from BassPro. When I could keep anything down.
Hannah it was anything sweet. I would make bowls of choc. chip cookie dough and just sit and eat it. I also craved spicy stuff. Tacos, enchiladas, etc.
Ben it was steak. I remember going and ordering steak and potatoes every time we went somewhere and I would fix it quite a bit at home. I couldn't get enough of it.
Mmmmm steak! That sounds good right about now.
Enjoy your poultry fest;)

I craved chocolate cake with all three. Individually...
Amy = tacos, ice cream
Mia = hamburgers, salads, and cheesecake
Adam = Arby's roast beef sandwiches, Fritos with sour cream, and as cliche as it sounds, pickles.
Healthy, eh? No wonder I'm still trying to lose baby weight eight months later.

With Charlie it was spicy food. I once called the husband from the grocery store crying that they didn't have anything spicy enough. He took me out for wings. What a guy!

I was SO OMG when I read about the sour cream .... mmmm and God love you for doing the low fat. I was FULL FAT sour cream with the twins. And yes ... ice cold.

Good for you for being so healthy!!
What did I crave? Lemon hostess pies. Except not even the Hostess ones, because they were too much money. I'm a class act.

OMG. Chocolate chocolate chip Hagen Daaz. Almost every day. The whole pint. You can just imagine how much weight I gained. And? I ate a lot of lemon yogurt. Don't like it now. :)

With Riley and Keegan, I was all about Culver's raspberry shakes and onion rings!!
With Carson and Cooper, I was all about Culver's Hot fudge sundays and pickles!
God I wish I was pregnant again with you!

When I was pregnant with my daughter, all I could think about was beef. Steak, nearly every day, I tell you. There were times I would wake up in the middle of the night with the urge to just eat the stuff raw. Never did it, but thought about it. I ate 24/7 that pregnancy, and gained the weight to prove it.
This pregnancy (with about 6 weeks to go now) my cravings have wavered, when I actually feel like eating at all. Lately, it's been beef jerky and fruit snacks. Most any fruity, gummy substance works. This time around, I've LOST 35 lbs so far, just from a lack of appetite most of the time.
And with both it was cold, sweet creamy stuff. Ice cream (and lots of it!), yogurt, cream cheese on everything (toast, crackers, etc).
Make sure you listen to that baby! They know what they want. :-)

MILK!! I couldn't get enough milk. I remember feeling half-way decent one morning (I was sick the whole nine months), drinking two big glasses of milk and puking it all up on the side of the road on the way to the movies with my best friend. But, still, I loved the milk!

Since I've never been pregnant, I cannot comment on those kinds of cravings.
But I do have a couple of comments...
"I have no problem imagining what a lion has visions of just before feeding time, because baby, I am so there."
I am totally thinking of the scene from Madagascar!
Second, you haven't even an Oreo in YEARS??? Are you serious?
Gotta love Kevin too, for going out in the FER-IGID cold last night.

Hmmm, with Kaylie, I loved eating hot peppers and hot fries, which I still do eat. And I also ate a chicken sandwich with extra mayo from McDonalds every.single.day. in my last trimester. For the 1st two, I couldn't stand the thought of any kind of chicken. Funny.
With Alyssa, I just craved food in general, I don't recall any particular food though. I did eat alot of ice cream now that I think about it and I am very much lactose intolerant.

Ooooo...I lurked over here from Frema's blog to find the most delicious sounding thing ever - chicken and sour cream! My pregnant belly is thanking you now!
I'm only about seven weeks along, and my cravings (when I'm not nauseous lol) have ranged from sausage gravy to cupcakes! This could be an interesting ride! :)
Great blog!

With Keven Jr. all I wanted was red meat. Chicken made me sick - the smell, the sight of it, you name it. I was also not fond of coffee or ice cream. All I wanted was red meat.
With Isaac? Chicken. All I wanted was chicken. And ironically enough I was able to drink coffee and eat ice cream (by the gallon) with this pregnancy. I also became a big fan of all things mint.
I'm so glad you are enjoying yourself and having a great time. You still amaze me and inspire me more than you know.

Actually when I was prego, I couldn't even LOOK at chicken. And don't even get me started on eggs. I couldn't even smell eggs. But I could eat sherbet like it was going out of style. Like in vats. Big, giant vats of sherbet. I ate it until my tounge was raw.
Then I could ONLY choke down my prenatal vitamin with a hugemongous glass of super cold chocolate milk.
But I gained 60 lbs. So you should ignore me from here on out.
